Are There Secular Christians?
« on: May 31, 2014, 06:42:19 PM »
There is a new term going around lately that  has me somewhat baffled. It's called secular Christians. I also read an article the other day talking about it and I don't get it. Is there any such thing as a secular Christian, and what does that really mean?

No doubt a "Secular Christian" is the same as a "Carnal Christian" and most surely will end up in the same place HELL!.

I did a little search on the web and came up with this definition :

A secular christian is a christian is one who believes that the United States is a secular nation where anyone can live regardless of their faith choices and firmly upholds the constitution.

They believe that Jesus was the son of God, but they are the opposite of the spectrum when compared to fundamentalists and extreme conservative Christians. They tend to believe in equal rights and don't judge meaning they actually follow the Bible.

Critique of them. These are the best Christians, in my opinion, because their beliefs do not interfere with scientific advancements, and they believe in the a secular nation and are anti theocracy. For our founding fathers were all too aware that religion mixed with government meant persecution and a lack of rights for others. They tend to be the most liberal Christians, this includes giving everyone the same rights as human beings, gays, atheists, Muslims, etc.
The only regret that I have is that I only have one life to live for my God.

Isn't a Christian who believes in evolution and not the Church called a Secular Christian? Someone who doesn't go to Church is called a secular Christian.

Brian,

A Christian is one who believes and follows the teaching of Christ, not the church.

Isn't secular and Christian opposites? So how can there be secular Christians?

Hi Beechwood,

It is the same as a carnal Christian.  Carnal means worldly so how can one be a worldly Christian.  The unsaved of this world are slowly dragging the vocabulary of Christian down to the point that the word Christian means nothing at all.

And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, "We will eat our own food and wear our own apparel; Only let us be called by your name, To take away our reproach."
(Isaiah 4:1)
The only regret that I have is that I only have one life to live for my God.

You are exactly right. Carnal Christian is a contradiction and so is Secular Christian. The people who call themselves Christian these days have nothing in common with Christianity.

"Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. Daniel 5:27"

God tries the spirits and the secular Christian will be found wanting.

Actually there are secular Christians, and it has nothing to do with the United States.

 )offtopic(

But I guess that this thread is about finished anyway:

I was born in 1944 and now am retired in the Veteran’s home with Parkinson’s.  I am at high risk for Alzheimer’s and my self imposed therapy is to spend everyday reading and studying Theology and preparing myself for the day that I will meet God.  I have read almost everything on MR and am always checking for something new.  I check the information center often but also the “last 20” of “what’s new” every so often.

Hi Sojourner,
It's listed as the "Biblical Web" link on most pages. Here is the URL
