I don't know if you are interested or not but the solar powered around the world flight is taking  off from Nagoya Japan non-stop to Hawaii (5 days and 5 nights) with only one pilot no heating, without using a drop of fuel.  It runs on stored battery power for the night and solar panel to charge the batteries in the day.  It flies between 25 and 35 knots with 4 - 17 horse power electric motors.

I find this very interesting.  You can follow the flight live on www.solarimpulse.com

That's basically a "glider" with some blender engines. So it's no great feat to keep it flying at night off batteries. Now if it were a real plane, that would be interesting. Because that would be difficult.
