Riddle for you
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:43:39 PM »
Okay,

Here's a little riddle for all you "thinkers" that are out there.

Johnny owns more than 50 cars.

Johnny owns less than 50 cars.

Johnny owns one car.

ONE of these three statements are true, the other two are false, which one is it and what is the reason for your answer.

Here's "good thinking" to you,

Mattie (rhymes with "Lottie")

Hi Mattie (rhymes with "Lottie"  :) )

Welcome to the community.  I love these brian teasers, but I usually end up with egg on my face.  Okay here goes nothing!  Johnny owns 51 cars, but Johnny actually owns less then 50 cars which leaves Johnny owning 1 car?

I hope you realize that you have just helped me to stave off alzhiemers disease, even if I answered wrong.  The experts say that engaging in this type brain stymuli can actually help to overcome the effects of many forms of senile dementia....Thanks.

Many Blessings,
Sandy

Only the first, Johnny owns more than 50 cars, can be true using your criterea. Because if he owned one, that would be less than 50 and so number 2 would also be true. And if he owed less than 50 that could mean that number 3 couold also be true. So only one (Johnny owns more than 50 cars) qualifies?

Am I correct?

Sandy and Harold,

Thanks for taking "part" in the little riddle.  The question I am faced with is:  should I wait for more responses, or will there even BE any more responses?

I will give you the answer and if anyone else should look at this, they'll have to "read it" in order to find the answer as well.

The answer is Johnny owns zero (0) cars.

The "only" answer that is true, is that Johnny owns "less" than 50 cars.

Zero cars is certainly "less" than 50!

The "other" two, owning more than 50, AND owning ONE, are both incorrect.

Thanks for the "company",

In Christ,

Mattie (rhymes with "Lottie")
